Fighting Back: Equipping Yourself for Spiritual Warfare
Recently, after a deep conversation with my wife, I realized that the attacks I’d been experiencing weren’t just ordinary challenges—they felt prolonged, heavy, and unusually persistent. At first, I brushed them off as part of life’s ups and downs. But the more I stopped to reflect, the more I recognized a deeper issue at play.
I began noticing negative thought patterns creeping in—cycles of doubt and second-guessing my progress and purpose. Stagnation would sneak in almost instantly, and I’d start analyzing everything in my life that wasn’t going according to plan. That would often spiral into questioning my calling and wanting to pivot in hopes of fixing the discomfort I was facing.
I also began to realize how my daily habits weren’t helping. These weren’t physical attacks I was facing—they were spiritual. They came in the form of anxiety, confusion, depression, a victim mentality, and overwhelming doubt. I thought God would just cover me automatically without me needing to engage. But what He revealed was clear: protection is a partnership. God does His part—but I must do mine.
He showed me that I need to cultivate a spiritual routine to stand firm against the warfare we’re often unaware of. The biggest battle isn’t what we see with our eyes—it’s what’s happening in the spiritual realm, every day and every night.
There is an enemy—call it the adversary, the opposition, the deceiver—that is working overtime to distract, deceive, and destroy those with a calling on their life. Especially those who are truly trying to walk with God. I had been operating naively, assuming I could live life “covered” without spiritual discipline. That was a mistake.
So I made a shift—and it’s been changing everything.
Here’s the spiritual routine I’ve begun to live by:
Spiritual Warfare Daily Routine:
Wake up before sunrise – Start your day with intention, before the world distracts you.
Begin in prayer and meditation – Center your mind and spirit.
Ask for specific protection – Be direct in your prayers; ask for spiritual covering.
Read the Word of God – Feed your spirit truth daily.
Limit technology exposure – Especially in the morning; guard your mind.
Fast regularly – Commit to a weekly fast or intermittent fasting to strengthen spiritual discipline.
Prioritize your health and fitness – A healthy body supports a sharp mind and spirit.
You might think this list seems simple—or maybe you’ve heard it before. But I’m telling you: when done consistently, it becomes powerful. These practices are equipping me in ways I didn’t expect, building strength, clarity, and divine protection.
I felt led to write this because I know many of you are facing spiritual battles and may not even realize it. You’re not crazy. You’re not alone. And you can fight back.
Start by building your routine. Make it daily. Make it sacred. It will help keep you aligned with your purpose and firmly planted in what God has called you to do.
We’re not just here to survive—we’re here to stand, fight, and fulfill our God-given purpose.
